I planned, reported, and wrote a special print issue of National Geographic on emerging neuroscience. It’s a unique print product: written by one person on a singular topic, in the spirit of a book; printed and distributed in the style of a glossy magazine. The Brain hit newsstands June 2022 with thematic sections on the neuroscience of perception, flavor, chronic pain, and consciousness as you’ve never seen them before: the brain as an interconnected network of information highways, not an organ with siloed regions for individual behaviors. Meet the scientists ushering in this new era, and the real people whose brains are at the center of their research.
